PREVIEW:
Olivia Petunia was a little girl who loved to explore. She also collected things as she explored, especially when she visited Farmer Dudley’s farm. This is where she was today. She’d been here many times already, and all the farm animals were her friends.
Today, she had a mission - to collect more stones and pebbles for her special pebble collection. The sheep pasture was the place to be. There she could find lots of special ones.
The sheep would often help her. They were out in the far pasture, helping keep the grass short. Lots of times they would run into interesting looking stones that they thought Olivia Petunia would like to collect. Of course, they had no hands to pick up, or pockets to keep them in for her, so they would try and remember where they’d seen it.
They always remembered the stone, but didn’t always remember where. Sometimes they thought they knew, but would send her in the wrong direction. She appreciated their effort, but sometimes it took hours, and many, many ‘remembering's’ for the sheep to help her find them back again.
Today was no different. “Good morning Ms. Wooleys.” she said politely to the sheep. All the sheep were called Ms. Wooley because they all looked the same to Olivia Petunia, and she couldn’t tell them apart.
All the Ms. Wooleys answered back with a ‘baa-aa’ in greeting. One Ms. Wooley butted her head against Olivia Petunia’s back. “Oh! You must have found another interesting pebble!” Ms. Wooley nodded and pushed her towards one corner of the field.
“Over here?” asked she. Ms. Wooley had already walked away, looking for green grass to munch. Now that she’d pointed the pebble out to Olivia Petunia, she’d forgotten all about it. Silly Mr. Wooley. It was a surprise she’d remembered the pebble at all.
Olivia Petunia searched and searched. Finally, she spotted something bright and shiny, just behind an ordinary looking rock. Was that it? She picked it up, and carefully looked at it. It was purple, with an orange swirl. Shiny flecks in it glittered, first green then blue then pink, as she turned it this way and that. This was no ordinary stone!
